“Research is taught through research”, this is the way to break the paradigm in higher education, to empower students to become researchers. It is necessary then, to treat them as a researcher, make them feel as part of a group where their input is fundamental to achieve objectives and show them a reward of their effort. We achieve this through their participation as speakers at international conferences or being part of a team of authors of a paper published in an indexed journal and not only in the thank you section at the end of the references.
To train an undergraduate researcher, we need to challenge them even if they don’t have experience. We train them to be successful through discipline, commitment and resilience when dealing with failure, because perseverance is a researcher´s last name. This essay has the purpose of showing the existing barriers in training of young scientists and how to break these barriers, to promote the development of young researchers with brilliant minds who can contribute to the development of the Nursing Profession.
