Evaluation of the nursing staff´s shift-based liaison process at a second-level hospital of care

Introduction: the shift link is the moment in which the nursing staff reports on the relevant findings and nursing care carried out during the workday to provide continuity.
Objective: describe the attachment to the shift process of the nursing staff in a second level hospital.
Material and methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out; the study universe was a hospital of second level of care in Mexico City, the unit of analysis was the nursing staff of the Internal Medicine and General Surgery services of all shifts. We used Yañez on purpose and validated instrument "Evaluation of the quality of the nursing shift liaison process".
Results: 173 shift links were contemplated, where 92 nurses participated. The average duration of the shift link was 10 minutes. 81.5% had no attachment and only 4% had high attachment. There was more attachment in the morning shift and in the internal medicine service.
Conclusion: there is no total attachment to the shift process, which may affect the continuity of care, as well as minimize the risks and / or complications of the patient's pathology.
