Nurse ́s experiences in performing their professional role

Introduction: more and more men decide to practice the nursing profession, which implies changes in the nurses’ own vision of their performance.
Objetive: to describe the experiences of nurses in the performance of their profession.
Material and methods: qualitative research design, descriptive phenomenological cut was used. A semistructured interview was conducted with eight male nursing professionals who work in some role in the nursing profession.
Results: the majority of the nurses interviewed stated: it is a challenge to be in nursing in the current social context, due to unfavorable opinions regarding their performance. However, they also coincide in feeling identified with the career, care and work of nursing.
Conclusions: male nursing professionals still face several challenges in the way of a full recognition of their professional work.
