Abstract

Introduction: pressure ulcers (PU) are a public health and social impact problem, so we present some factors for prevention in patients undergoing spine surgery, in a third-level hospital.

Objective: to identify risk factors for the development of pressure ulcers (PU) in the care agent undergoing spine surgery in prone decubbital positioning in a third-level hospital.

Material and methods: quantitative, prospective and longitudinal study, carried out in a third-level institution, with an n of 20 patients. The statistical analysis was descriptive.

Results: the percentage of gender for the study was 50% for male and 50% for female, the outstanding age predominance between 40 and 59 years with 60%, weight and size represent a determining factor, PU that developed with higher prevalence in care agents were stage I at 72% and stage II at 28%, related to surgical time and pressure between two planes exerted during the surgical procedure , finally, therapeutic devices account for a latent risk factor for the onset of UPP in 100% of cases.

Conclusion: it is important that the nursing professional in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team in the neurosurgical area perform the necessary care for their prevention, as the risk factors associated with the development of PU are: weight, size, hours of surgery and the type of support surface.
