Nursing specialization in anesthesiology and resuscitation as a training need in Cuba

Abstract

Introduction: The Postgraduate Specialty is the academic training that provides the professional with the updating, deepening, improvement or expansion of labor competencies for the professional performance that is required. Objective: to determine the perception of nurse anesthetists about the need for specialization of human resources in this area of ​​care. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in Villa Clara province in the first quarter of 2022. The universe was made up of 100 nursing professionals from the province dedicated to anesthesiology activity and the sample was made up of 81. An interview was conducted as an instrument in the investigative process. Results: 59.26% of the anesthetist nurses in Villa Clara are women, the most represented age group was between 51 and 60 years with 54.32% of the analyzed sample, professionals with more than 10 years of experience predominated. in the activity and 83.95% are Nursing graduates. Conclusions: They have the general perception that the training of specialist nurses in anesthesiology and resuscitation is necessary, since it will allow guaranteeing the adequate renewal of this human resource, having a trained nursing human resource capable of providing optimal anesthesiological care, achieving a higher professional level that places them parallel to other areas of care, train younger human resources who have a higher level of preparation in this specialty and guarantee the training of teachers and researchers in the area on an ongoing basis.
