Comparative study of happiness in students of nursing and medicine UNAM

Introducción: Happiness has to do not only with pleasure but to recognize the value of daily activity.
Objective: To explore whether the happiness of Nursing and medical students at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, is different by level of happiness inventory of Oxford.
Methodology: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted, the observation unit were undergraduate students of Nursing and medicine at the Nacional Autonomous University of Mexico; with a non-probability sampling. We questionnaire “Happiness” University of Oxford “29-item Liker scale with six points, validated by the University of Lima with Cronbach´s Alpha of 0.80 was used.
Results: The sample consisted of 112 nursing and medical students at UNAM, 65% are nurses from the National School of Nursing and Obstetrics (ENEO) at the Nacional Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In the inventory of happiness in medicine it was found that the average score was 111, with a range of 86-125. For Nursing the average was 108 with a range of 63-143. No significant that from the average value of both simples showed differences.
Discussion: Our results do not match those of other authors, who report that nurses nave a happiness index lower than that of medicine.
Conclusions: It should be noted that this study is in its initial stage, so we cannot, rule out same differences between the two professions as regards its happiness index, as expressed Shojaei and Jafari.
