Nursing consulting, an advanced care strategy

Objectives: to describe the impact of neurological consultant at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery Manuel Velasco Suarez (INNyN MVS) through its relationship with the number of hospital readmissions for poor care at home.
Materials and Methods: a descriptive, observa-tional, cross-sectional and retrospective study where a sample of 146 patients treated in neurological consultancy in the period January 2015-March 2016 included, variable “Readmission” was studied in each patient in the INNN MVS. Data were processed in SPSS version 23 and Excel for analysis.
Results: 146 patients were treated with a total of 524 consultations were granted, with an average of 3.6 visits per patient. It was found that the percentage of readmissions is 27.4% of which 10.9% were readmitted for poor care at home, mainly with diagnoses of Pressure Ulcers (UPP), dehydration, malnutrition and infections among others.
Conclusions: the consulting model of neurological nursing highly specialized, it contributes greatly in the care of patients who need it, which contributes in reducing hospital readmissions, thereby improving the clinical condition of the patient at home as in the institution, thereby lowering costs and quality of life of people is promoted.
